Choose Your Battles
There are moments in our lives when something rises up in us, a sense of injustice, a wound, a frustration, and we feel ready to step into battle. We’ve all heard the saying, “Choose your battles,”. Unfortunately, I’m not always good at choosing my battles. I often feel obligated to fix every wrong, and that’s when I need God’s grace the most, to make sure I only fight the battles that come from Him.

God reminds us that not every battle is ours. Not every fight is holy. And not every confrontation is God‑ordained. Scripture makes this clear. David fought Goliath because God called him to that battle. But he refused to fight Saul, even when Saul pursued him. David understood God’s desire that he fight the enemy, not the anointed, and fight the battles God assigns not the ones pride invites.

I’m grateful for the people God placed in my life who have stopped me from fighting battles I should never have entered and the courage to step forward to fight those He assigns. Their wisdom, calmness, and love have kept me from wrestling with the wrong enemy. They have helped me stay grounded and reminded me to always ask: “Lord, is this a battle You want me to fight?”

How do you choose your battles, and only fight the ones God wants you to fight?

Who are those special people in your life who help you discern and walk away from battles?
