Week 499

Positive Post Sunday, September 20, 2026…. Week 499.

Why I Started Listening to God
There came a point in my life when I realized that simply believing in God wasn’t the same as listening to Him. I had spent years praying, attending Mass, reading Scripture, and trying to live a faithful life, but my prayers often felt like one‑way conversations. I talked, I asked, I hoped… but I didn’t pause long enough to hear anything in return. Life was loud, responsibilities were many, and the world seemed to grow more divided by the day. In the middle of all that noise, I felt a quiet tug on my heart: Slow down. Pay attention. I’m speaking, are you listening?

So, I began to listen. Not with my ears, but with my spirit. I started noticing the gentle nudges, the moments of clarity, the unexpected peace that would settle in during prayer, cycling, reading, or even during everyday conversations. I realized God had been speaking all along, I had simply been too distracted to notice. Listening to God became less about seeking dramatic signs and more about cultivating stillness, humility, and openness. It became a daily practice of asking, Lord, what are You saying to me today? And then giving Him the space to answer.

Over time, listening to God changed the way I live. It shaped my writing, my relationships, my decisions, and my sense of purpose. It taught me that God’s voice is rarely loud, but always present. It reminded me that He guides us not through force, but through invitation. And it showed me that when we truly listen, when we quiet our hearts and open our minds, God reveals things we could never have discovered on our own.

I started listening to God because I needed His guidance. I continue listening because I’ve learned that His voice brings peace, clarity, and direction in a world that offers very little of any of those. And each Sunday, when I sit down to write, I do so with the same prayer: Speak, Lord. I’m listening.

Where in your life might God already be speaking, quietly, consistently, lovingly, waiting for you to slow down enough to notice?

What simple practice could help you create space to hear God’s guidance more clearly in the week ahead?
