The Favorite Singer
Teaching: Faith often reveals itself most clearly through the simplicity of a child’s heart. Faith isn’t complicated. It’s the instinct to give credit to the One who deserves our highest praise.
Story: My wife Michele and I recently attended a concert by an accomplished Christian singer at a local church in Redlands, California with dear friends. The night was filled with worship, joy, and the unmistakable sense that God was near. At one point, the singer invited a few young kids who had been dancing in the aisles to come up to the stage. Their excitement was pure and contagious.
After a few playful questions, the singer asked one young boy, “Who is your favorite singer?” Without a second of hesitation, the little boy answered, “Jesus.”
The crowd laughed at first, expecting him to say the singer’s name, but then paused, because in that simple, unfiltered response, something true was spoken. It wasn’t rehearsed. It wasn’t clever. It was just honest. And in that honesty, you could feel the room shift. It was a reminder that even in a night filled with music, lights, and celebration, the One who gives meaning to every song was present.
This young boy didn’t hesitate or calculate; he simply said what was true to him. In that moment, he taught everyone in the room that worship isn’t about performance, it’s about presence. When our hearts are tuned to God, even a concert becomes a cathedral.
Reflection:
Where in your life do you need to return to that same simple, unfiltered faith?
How might you let your everyday moments become reminders of the One who deserves your highest praise?
