Week 72
Positive post Sunday, July 1, 2018- Week 72.
Last week I wrote about the importance of living a life of faith and having faith in God and his plan for each of us. That caused me to reflect on a very important part of my faith, attending Mass each Sunday. Some say that the Catholic Mass is redundant or even boring. I see it as a tradition, a foundational part of my faith that has passed the test of time. A celebration of the Eucharist, one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. It’s not intended to be entertaining, but reflective, prayerful and spiritual, a time of community, a time to give thanks for our many blessings, ask for forgiveness for our shortcomings, and seek guidance as we navigate through our life journey. A time to pray and ask for God’s blessings upon ourselves and our loved ones.
I am thankful for the opportunity to attend Mass each week and welcome all my friends and family to join me. That being said, I also acknowledge that simply going to church each week does not necessarily make you a good Christian or human being. There are many good, honest and caring people (including some of my close friends) who do not go to church each week yet lead Christ-like lives of humility and service to others. Although I certainly encourage them to attend Mass on Sunday, they remind me of the importance of living my faith 24-7, not just on Sunday. In addition to continuing my tradition of attending Mass each Sunday, I plan to work on living a faithful life Monday thru Saturday as well.
