Week 64
Positive post Sunday, May 6, 2018- Week 64.
Have you ever met a true legend? I was honored to recognize my good friend and legend in professional cycling, Chris Horner at the Redlands Bicycle Classic, “Where Legends Are Born” yesterday. You can google Chris and see his incredible history of success in cycling. A few highlights include being the first American to win the Vuelta a España in 2013 at 41 making him the oldest winner of a “grand tour”, finishing 9th overall at the 2010 Tour de France and winning the Tour of the Basque Country that same year. Chris is also a 4-time winner of the Redlands Bicycle Classic. For my non cycling friends, this is on par with winning the Super Bowl, World Cup US Open…you get the picture.
My colleagues on the RBC Organizing Committee have heard me say many times that it’s not just what professional cyclists do on the bike but what they do off the bike that defines them and shows you their true character. My family and I have had the privilege of hosting cycling teams at the RBC for many year, (Since 1994, we’ve hosted over 60 riders spanning over 15 years) with our friends the Barichs and Sourys. We have hosted Chris at least 7 times over the years and I can tell you first hand that Chris is as much a legend off his bike as he is on his bike.
You see, the RBC is far more than just a bike race and Chris Horner is far more than a highly successful professional cyclist (and he is certainly that). He is an ambassador for the sport of cycling, a true legend both on and off the bike! And most importantly he is a respected and valued friend of our family, the RBC team and the greater Redlands Community!
