Week 429
Positive Post Sunday, May 18, 2025…. Week 429. I recently read the book, “GOD IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU” by Dr. Brian Grogan. This is a deeply spiritual book, that reinforces my belief that, although many people spend their lives searching for God, He can be found everywhere in our daily lives. Grogan goes further and provides perspective and experiential guidance on how, with an open mind and the ability to listen, we all can have conversations with God. I encourage you to read this book and engage in the Suggested Exercises at the end of each chapter. Although it takes practice and patience, the experience of participating in these exercises can transform your relationship with God.
Reading this book inspired me to write the following:
Conversations with our Lord: The Art of Talking with God
Since the dawn of civilization, humans have sought connection with something greater than themselves. Whether through prayer, meditation, or quiet reflection, the idea of talking with God has remained a deeply personal and transformative experience for many across cultures and faiths.
Talking with God isn’t confined to a singular method; it’s a deeply personal experience that varies from person to person. Some engage in structured prayers passed down through generations, while others speak informally, as if sharing thoughts with a trusted confidant. Some find God’s presence in nature, in the written word, or in the silent moments of contemplation.
As we experience in our everyday lives, communication is most effective and successful when there is a two-way exchange. I believe the same is true when we have a conversation with God. Our focus should not just be on speaking but more importantly listening with an open heart and mind. Answers may come in unexpected ways such as, through intuition, scripture, signs in everyday life, or moments of clarity that seem to arrive at just the right time. Some may see these signs or moments of clarity as coincidences, but I choose to see them as God speaking to me.
This reminds me of another book I encourage you to read, “WALKING with GOD” by John Eldredge. Like “GOD IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU”, This book is focused on learning to hear the voice of God. Just reading the Prelude with the subtitles, Learning to Hear the Voice of God and Listening to God, provides us insight into the power of having a conversation with God. The prelude also reminds us of Psalm 95:7-8, For he is our God, we are the people he shepherds, the sheep in his hands. Oh, that today you would hear his voice: Do not harden your hearts…
Many of us struggle with silence. There are moments when seeking God feels like calling into the void with no reply, no sign, just silence. This can be frustrating, even painful. However, as suggested in the books above, that silence is not the absence of a response, but an invitation to deepen our faith and patience. In these quiet moments, we often find wisdom, strength, and clarity. God always listens and responds and although His responses don’t always come in the way or timing we may expect, they do come in ways that align with His greater purpose for us.
A final thought on having meaningful conversations with God. A deep relationship with God, like any meaningful relationship, is built on more than just requests. I certainly seek God’s guidance and ask for his blessing, but I find that when I focus less on asking and more on simply listening while being present with Him, my faith deepens in a meaningful fulfilling way.
Do you see God right in front of you and set time aside to have conversations with Him?
How do you walk with God in your everyday life?
