Week 420
Positive Post Sunday, March 16, 2025…. Week 420. Music is a powerful tool that can influence our emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being. Although some types of music or lyrics can have a negative impact on those that choose to listen to them, music can enrich our lives in countless ways (See Positive post Sunday, December 24, 2023…. Whether you’re using music to unwind, find inspiration, or connect with others, its impact is undeniable. For me, spiritual-based music has a profound ability to deepen my faith in numerous ways, touching my soul and lifting my spirit. Music can serve as a bridge between the human heart and the divine, enhancing the experience of faith and deepening the connection to God.
Some may be familiar with the Walk-up songs in baseball, tunes that play as batters walk up to the plate or a pitcher enters the game. These songs are chosen by the players themselves and often reflect their personalities, motivations, or musical tastes. Walk-up songs can energize the crowd, pump up the player, and even intimidate the opposing team. Reflecting on my PPS from last week on the Mass, wouldn’t it be great to have a walk-up song before going to Mass or your place of worship! Perhaps we can call it our “Walk-in” song, the song we listen to before Mass that gets us in the right mindset before we walk into Mass. A wonderful way to prepare spiritually.
It would be very difficult to select one song and recognizing that we may choose a different one depending on where we are at in our lives each week, below are a few “Walk-in” songs for consideration (Disclaimer- I realize that for a few of the songs, the singers I note are not the original singers of writers).
“I Can Only Imagine” by MercyMe
“You Say” by Lauren Daigle
“Bread of Life” by Bernadette Farrell
“Amazing Grace” by John Newton
“Be Thou My Vision” by Audrey Assad
“How Great Thou Art” by Carrie Underwood and Vince Gil
“The Lord’s My Shepherd” by Stuart Townend (based on Psalm 23)
“Holy God, We Praise Thy Name” by Perry Como
