Week 415
Positive Post Sunday, February 9, 2025…. Week 415. Last week’s PPS reminded me of another one of my favorite writings on the influence we have on our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I encourage all parents, grandparents, great grandparents and guardians to read, “When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking.” I found this to be true as a child, parent and grandparent. I know there are many versions, but I’ve attached a copy below. My favorite is, “When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.”
As a child, I truly experienced my parents and grandparents praying and living lives of faith and I’m grateful for the positive influence they had (and my parents continue to have) on my life. Although the verses below are geared toward young children, I’d like to someday write a version for older children who, like me and my children, continue to watch and learn from their parents and grandparents as they age with grace and dignity.
To my children and grandchildren, like all of us, I am a sinner and certainly have my faults, but I hope that, when I thought you weren’t looking, you saw me living a life of Faith, Family and Fitness, the Triangle of Life. That’s the legacy I pray that someday I leave behind for you and future generations.
What are you doing when you think your children or grandchildren aren’t looking that will have a positive influence on them?
How are you casting a shadow that helps your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren develop, regardless of your age?
