Week 323

Positive post Sunday, May 7, 2023- Week 323.

Those who know me know I like quotes and sayings, including creating some myself.  I have found that as I gain more life experience (aka, get older), many of these sayings have deeper meaning.  This is because, throughout my life, I have had many experiences that remind me of a particular quote or saying.  You know, those moments in your life when something happens, and you think of a quote or saying that exemplifies the experience and personalizes it.   I have also had the opportunity to share a timely quote or saying with my family or a colleague at work to amplify a point.  I often catch myself saying, “That reminds me of the saying…”.

One of my favorite quotes is, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”.  This quote has withstood the test of time and can be traced all the way back to President Theodore Roosevelt.  I’ve used this quote many times to remind me, and others, that no matter how much we know about a subject, trying to portray ourselves as the “Smartest person in the room” often stifles the creativity and innovation of others and results in a lack of trust and hinders our ability to lead.  Most of us listen to, learn from and work hard for those who we trust and believe genuinely care about us and our wellbeing.

Another of my favorite sayings is, “Your actions speak so loud, I cannot hear a word you are saying”.  I used this saying in my Week 256 Positive post Sunday on January 16, 2022.  Take a look back at that PPS, I had some fun with many sayings you might recall or find useful.  I have a great deal of passion around this saying because “Talk is cheap”, and “Words can be empty”.  Alright, enough sayings, but I think you get the idea, “Words without action are like wheels without traction.  It is how you live that counts”.  This is a good reminder to us all that, although we may “Talk a good talk”, the true value is in how we live our lives and follow up on our commitments and promises.  In many cases, our loved ones and colleagues depend on us.

What’s your favorite life saying or quote that helps you be a better person?

Do you check to make sure your “intent” is worthy?
