Week 264

Positive post Sunday, March 13, 2022- Week 264.

Have you ever heard the Lord speak to you? I have, and most recently at Mass on February 27th. It felt like an out of body experience. We were blessed to hear from one of the seminarians from our church who spoke about his own life journey that led him to the seminary and it was as if the Lord was speaking directly to me. Those that know me well, will see why this was a very powerful, spiritual and emotional experience for me. As I listened intently, all I could think of is 1 Samuel 3:9, “Speak Lord, your servant is listening”.

My apologies if I don’t get everything correct from the talk as I was listening as if the Lord was talking to me through him. You see, like me, the seminarian was an avid cyclist and rode his bike as often as he could. Then, one day, he was hit by a vehicle and sustained very serious and life-threatening injuries. He was fortunate that three nurses “happened to be nearby” to attend to him, or as the seminarian and I believe, were sent by God to save his life.

As you might imagine, this experience literally changed his life. Although he had recently completed college and was on a successful career path in media production, after this experience, he realized that God had other plans for him. He is now on a new career path, dedicating his life to serve the Lord. I’m grateful for his devotion and look forward to supporting him as he continues his journey to the priesthood.

My family and close friends know that I had a near-death cycling accident on October 2, 2020 where I was also hit by a vehicle, and I’m sure they understand why this was such a meaningful and personal message that as they say, “hit home” for me. As the seminarian was sharing his journey, it was as if the Lord was speaking directly to me, calling me to expand my vocation and deepen my faith.

I can’t explain or adequately express the deep feelings and aura I was experiencing on that Sunday evening in church listening to the Lord speak to me through one of his young disciples. I will never forget those few minutes that once again strengthened my faith and reinforced my commitment to serve the Lord. I say, once again, because I have lived through a few life-threatening experiences in my life thus far. These experiences have reminded me to never take my life for granted, and like the seminarian, to “hear and accept” the Lord’s call to serve.

The Lord speaks to all of us, we just need to have an open mind and heart to hear him and act.

Do you listen to the Lord when he speaks to you, especially through others and your life experiences?

Do you hear him and respond, making any adjustments in your life needed to bring you closer to him?
