Week 257
Positive post Sunday, January 23, 2022- Week 257.
I once again turn to Shane Parrish at Farnam Street as inspiration for my PPS. Specifically, today’s version of Sunday Brain Food, No. 456 | January 23, 2022. Here’s the link: Playing on Hard Mode – Farnam Street (fs.blog).
There are many good topics in this week’s version of Sunday Brain Food, but one caught my attention, an interview with Brunello Cucinelli. I must confess, I didn’t know who fashion icon Brunello Cucinelli was before reading this interview with him, https://om.co/2015/04/27/brunello-cucinelli-2/. Likely because I don’t spend $500 for a pair of sneakers or $4,000 for a cashmere sweater. Sorry Neiman Marcus
.
Setting aside all the bling, luxury and wealth, there are many learnings from this interview. Along with Brunello’s humble beginnings, humanitarianism, business ethics and love of philosophy, what interested me most in the interview was his statement below.
“There are three things you cannot buy. Fitness: You have to keep fit, whether you’re rich or not. Diet: You cannot pay someone to be on a diet for you. I think that diet is the biggest sacrifice in my life. Then, looking after your soul. No one can possibly treat your soul but you yourself. This is something you can do through culture and philosophy.”
This reminded me of the Beatles song, “Can’t buy me love”, or in this case money can’t cure my soul. Brunello Cucinelli, a self-made billionaire recognizes that regardless of one’s wealth, we all struggle with curing the malaise of our souls. Might I, a humble servant of the Lord, suggest that it’s not only through culture and philosophy that we can cure this malaise of our souls, but through strengthening our Triangle of Life – Faith, Family and Fitness. The beauty of Faith is that, regardless of our wealth, we all have the same opportunity to heal our souls.
What are you doing to cure the malaise of your soul?
How do you share the wealth within your soul?
