Positive Post Sunday., July 16, 2017- Week 22.
Just re-read Amber Neben’s book, When SHMACK Happens. This is a must read for all Christians and/or athletes. An amazing story of the journey and making of a spiritual champion who was/is not afraid to credit God with her success. Amber navigated through some very rough waters, but with God as her skipper, she emerged as a highly successful world class cyclist.
I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Amber, and her husband Jason (her little rock, Christ being her ROCK) through her participation in the Redlands Bicycle Classic over the past several years. Although her success “on the bike” is impressive, what she has accomplished “off the bike” is life changing. I personally experienced Amber’s deep faith and humble and generous community outreach many times with two occasions standing out. First was in 2013 when she donated SEVERAL brand-new bikes, helmets and locks to kids at the Redlands Boys and Girls club. I could not possibly do justice in explaining how amazing it was to see the excitement and the smiles on those Kid’s faces…….priceless! The other occasion was when Amber donated a hand cycle to a young local disabled girl at the beginning of a race.
I encourage you to read Amber’s book and support the Dare To Be Project, the nonprofit organization Amber founded to help needy kids. I’ll end with one of the many Bible verses quoted in Amber’s book, Proverbs 16:9, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps”.
