Week 211

Positive post Sunday, March 7, 2021- Week 211.

During Lent, many Christians, including me, prepare for the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday by fasting and giving up some of life’s amenities.  One tradition I started years ago, is not just giving up things but doing something positive each day.  As an example, each Lenten season, I look forward to reading the Living Lent Daily emails I receive from Loyola Press, a Jesuit Ministry.  The emails contain thoughtful and reflective writings and excerpts from religious books with timely and relevant short stories that help me experience Lent as a time of grace and spiritual growth as we prepare for the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday.

I have found the Living Lent Daily readings to be thoughtful, inspirational and educational and I enjoy reflecting on them each day during my Lenten journey.  If you take time to read it, you will find examples of Favorite Lenten Practices, Favorite Lenten Memories, Learnings from Kids and Reflective Questions.  Below is one example from Joanne from New York, which reminds us that, if we take the time to truly listen, we can learn from children of all ages.

Seeing Jesus in others

A lesson I learned from my children happened one Holy Thursday when we stopped after Mass to pray at the altar of repose. My daughter, who was four years old, watched our fellow parishioners kneel to pray and look reverently on the Blessed Sacrament. As we left, she asked, “Why do they kneel down and look like that?” I answered that it was Jesus, and they were kneeling because they loved him. She innocently replied, “But if Jesus is in all of us, why don’t they look at each other that way?” Her words have followed me all these years as I sometimes struggle to see the face of Jesus in others.

How do you see Jesus in others?

Or perhaps more importantly, how do others see Jesus in you?
