Week 197

Positive post Sunday, November 29, 2020- Week 197. 

I was catching up on my reading this holiday weekend and was once again inspired by Robert Glazer, Founder & CEO, Acceleration Partners.  In his Friday Forward series this past Friday, November 27th he wrote an article titled “Simple Gestures”.  He highlighted how a simple coffee purchase by a business traveler, Ryan Estis, made in the Minneapolis airport on Christmas Eve, turned into an experience he would never forget.  Here’s the link to Ryan explaining his experience, https://fridayforward.cmail20.com/t/y-l-uukliuy-tdudiljrdu-y/.  It’s worth watching.

Those that took the time to watch the video heard how Lily Olsen saw her job as a barista as far more than simply pouring coffee for busy travelers.  She saw her vocation as pouring happiness into other people’s lives.  Can you imagine how much better the world would be if we all reimagined our jobs as Lily has.  As Ryan suggests in the video, when pursuing success, we shouldn’t focus on success itself but rather on being helpful.  I’d suspect that by doing so, success would follow shortly.

In closing his Friday Forward, Robert shared the following quote of the week from Maya Angelou“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  This was certainly the case for Ryan.  As he notes, he will never forget that cup of coffee and has continued to share his memorable experience with Lily for years.
