Week 175
Positive post Sunday, June 28, 2020- Week 175.
We’ve all heard someone say, “to be honest”, or “let me be honest”. I don’t know about you but when I hear that it makes me wonder, are they not being honest in everything else they say? Honesty, defined by some as when you SPEAK the truth and ACT truthfully, seems so simple, yet at times we all have trouble being truthful. After all, we are human, and our feelings and opinions can cloud our understanding of the facts.
When discussing honesty and truth, I find it of value to seek an understanding from a higher authority. Let’s see what the Bible says.
Matthew 7:16 tells us that we are known by our fruit. Let us be examples of a God of truth and life by living lives of integrity and truthfulness. Proverbs 28:6 says it’s better to be a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways. Proverbs 21:3 informs us that the Lord values honesty and truthfulness above sacrifice. And, 2 Corinthians 8:21 notes that we should be concerned for what is honorable not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of others.
One of my favorite sayings is, “Your actions speak so loud, I can’t hear a word you are saying”. I appreciate this statement as it reminds us that, although we may speak the truth, if our actions don’t match, our words are hollow, and we are not being honest or following God’s will.
Do you strive to walk in the footsteps of the Lord by living a life of integrity and truthfulness?
Do you work hard to make sure you speak the truth and your actions match what you say?
