Week 156

Positive post Sunday, February 16, 2020- Week 156.

Tomorrow, February 17th is national random acts of kindness day.  Well, several students from Mariposa Elementary School in Redlands who are a part of the Friendly Helpers got an early start.  Under the leadership of school counselor Jackie Land and Principal Dustin Hackney they were seen sprinkling kindness in the City of Redlands this past Thursday at what is known as “protest corner”.  The corner of Redlands Blvd. and Orange St. in Redlands often used by many groups to protest various issues.

What a pleasant change to see our youth holding up signs with sayings like, “You’re Awesome”, You’re Wonderful” and “Have a Great Day!” rather than politically charged signs.  Maybe this corner will now be known as “Kindness Corner”.  It was also great to see all the support the students had from local leaders like Redlands Mayor Paul Foster, School Board member Michele Rendler, RUSD Superintendent Mauricio Arellano, Redlands Police Chief Chris Catren, Interim Fire Chief Rich Sessler and police and fire personnel who were all standing side by side with the students.

Thank you students and all who participated, you have reminded us of the importance and value of simple acts of kindness and the positive impact they can have on the lives of others.  For now on, when I go by that intersection I will think of kindness not politics or protests.

There are endless opportunities for all of us to perform random acts of kindness each and every day.  The acts of kindness I find most meaningful and impactful are those that are spontaneous, occur when nobody is looking and come without expectation of reward or praise.  In other words, they come from the heart.

What random acts of kindness will you do?  How will you help increase kindness in your community?
