Week 138

Positive post Sunday, October 6, 2019- Week 138.

When was the last time you attended your high school reunion?  Well, thanks to the planning lead by Joe Nocella, this past Friday I had the opportunity to catch up with roughly 25 classmates from Saint Francis High School Class of ‘79, our 40th class reunion.  A special shout out to my 4 fellow alumni from St. James Elementary School Brain Cameron, Sean Hughes, Jim Jimenez and Bill McCreary who attended.

For some, attending a high school reunion is about status and drama, seeing who comes in the most expensive car or catching up on the latest scandals.  Many don’t even attend their high school reunions for these and many other reasons.

From my perspective, our reunion was different.  We didn’t sit around and take inventory of all the material things we have amassed in our lives, or search for material for the next episode of Days of Our Lives or the Jerry Springer Show.  Instead, we spent our valuable and limited time together having meaningful and genuine conversations about our times in high school and life journeys since then.  We talked about work, retirement, hobbies, travel, and most importantly, family.  None of our lives are without challenges, but it was uplifting to see that many of the life lessons we learned during our time together in high school are still important to us later in life, and most importantly, being passed on to our loved ones.

Reconnecting with my classmates reminded me of how valuable the education we received at St. Francis High School was in establishing a foundation on which many of us have built our lives.  I’m grateful for all the teachers, coaches and administrators who influenced my life.  With their guidance, I learned far more than math and science.

Thank you again Joe Nocella, Rick Kvassay and Jim Jimenez for making our reunion happen, and for reminding us of how important and valuable it is to stay connected.  I look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

When is your next class reunion?  Will you attend and explore opportunities to reconnect with classmates and form renewed relationships with those that share your values and interests?
