Week 127

Positive post Sunday, July 21, 2019- Week 127.

I may not have known any of the men and women whose memorials are seen in the photo below, but I’m keenly aware of the sacrifice they and their families made so we can all enjoy our freedom.  I took this photo while riding through Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftrosecrans.asp, which is a federal military cemetery in the city of San Diego, California. It is located on the grounds of the former Army coastal artillery station Fort Rosecrans and is administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.  This is just one of many national cemeteries throughout our country where eligible members of our armed forces and family members are resting in peace.

I am eternally grateful for all our service personnel, both past and present, and their families.  It is through their sacrifices that we enjoy our freedom, which I will never take for granted, especially when I’m cycling freely throughout our great nation.

A very special Thank You to my family members who have served or are currently serving in our armed services: Jeff Rendler, Ken Rendler, Ray Rendler, Jeff Peterson and David Mazur.  I would also like to recognize our dear friends the Steinbachers.  On December 10, 2006 at the young age of 22, Army Specialist Nicholas P. Steinbacher paid the ultimate price when he lost his life as the result of a roadside bomb while on patrol in Baghdad.  Although he grew up to be a strong and loyal soldier, Nick, as seen in the photo from his preschool Christmas program, will always be a little angel, now sitting alongside the good Lord.

Who are the veterans, both past and present, in your life that you would like to recognize?
