Week 109
Positive post Sunday, March 17, 2019- Week 109.
Today is the final day of the 35th Redlands Bicycle Classic (RBC), a professional stage race that is recognized by the cycling community throughout the world. Those that have raced in Redlands over the past 35 years include the “who’s who” of professional cycling, including Olympians, world champions and top Tour de France cyclists. We have been blessed to have many of them stay in our homes, play with our kids and visit our schools sharing their journeys and the importance of health, fitness and safety.
And now, celebrating the 35th year, and in recognition of the RBC being a foundational part of the City of Redlands and the broader Inland Empire community, a banner has been permanently etched into the street at the start/finish line in downtown Redlands. To some, this banner may simply be words on the street, “Redlands Bicycle Classic Where Legends are Born Since 1985”, but to me, and I suspect many others, this banner and the RBC has a much deeper meaning. I can’t possibly explain in words, and certainly not in this short post, what this banner represents to me, my family, past and present RBC Organizing Committee members, host housing families and cyclists of all ages and abilities who have experienced this amazing community event. Each of us have our own stories and experiences over the past 35 years that are etched into our memories and represent an important part of our lives. I invite you to share your experience with the RBC!
“The Redlands Bicycle Classic is far more than just a bike race!”
