Week 261
Positive post Sunday, February 20, 2022- Week 261.
I love riding my NordicTrack stationary bike, a thoughtful gift from my family that has helped me rehab over the past 15 months and improved my health. I have ridden all over the world “virtually” from the comfort and safety of our home. It seems like we do most things virtually these days![]()
Last week I rode up mount Haleakala on the Island of Maui with former professional cyclist George Hincapie. While sharing the victories and challenges he experienced while racing over the years, George made a comment that resonated with me, “Focus on what you can control”. Although he was speaking in the context of bike racing, noting that there are many dynamics in a race that you can’t control (e.g., getting a flat tire, weather conditions, other team tactics, etc.), the message clearly has wisdom beyond cycling.
We live in a time of significant change, much of which is beyond our control. Our challenge is to decipher what we can or cannot control and focus our limited time and energy on those things that matter most and that are within our control. Although admittedly challenging, we are best served by resisting the urge to fixate on, or stress over, those things that are not within our control and that often distract us from concentrating on what really matters in our lives. I have found it therapeutic and empowering to place those things I can’t control in the hands of the Lord and ask for his guidance and support.
Are you focused on what really matters in your life and that you can control?
Have you placed those things in your life that you can’t control in God’s hands?
