Week 249
Positive post Sunday, November 28, 2021- Week 249.
I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving with family and friends. I continue to be thankful for my Faith, Family and Fitness. After all the eating over the past few days, I will really need to focus on my Fitness and ride a few extra miles on my bike!
Now that many of us have paused our busy lives to give thanks for all our blessings, it’s time to prepare for Christmas. No, I don’t mean, putting up decorations, shopping for presents or going to parties. Although these have been long standing traditions that many of us enjoy, the preparation I’m talking about is preparing for the coming of Christ. I’ve always felt that Christmas should be spelled ChristMass to help us remember what we are celebrating.
The season of Advent, observed by most Christians, begins today. Advent is the time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the coming of Christ at Christmas. It’s a time each year that reminds me of the importance and value of preparation in our lives and helps me remain focused on the spiritual importance of this meaningful Holyday.
One of my favorite traditions during Advent is to read the daily Advent reflection from Loyola Press. This year the focus is on St. Joseph, a man of courage, love, and acceptance. A man we can all learn from. Joseph’s prayerful and thoughtful support of Mary during a most confusing and emotional time with the pending birth of Jesus is a model for us all when we face complex moral and personal issues. As noted in Today’s reflection, “Joseph subordinated his feelings to do what God required. He was open to whatever God wanted, and when he sensed the divine will, he obeyed.”
Should you be interested in spending a few moments each day of Advent on a Journey with St. Joseph here’s the link to sign up: Journey with St. Joseph.
If you celebrate Christmas, what are your family traditions?
If you’re a Christian, how are you preparing for the coming of our Lord?
