Week 247

Positive post Sunday, November 14, 2021- Week 247. 

Calling all Redlands cyclists, nursing home providers, elderly wellness professionals, community leaders and all who value and respect the elderly members of our community.

On October 17th at 9:01pm, I received a message on Facebook from a good cycling buddy of mine Danny Demuth.  The message had a link to a TEDx Talk on YouTube by Ole Kassow, founder of an organization called Cycling Without Age and a simple note that said “Gotta Live this”.  I’m sure Danny meant “Love” but once you see the video, “Live” may be more accurate!  Here’s the link to the video: https://youtu.be/O6Ti4qUa-OU.  

Being an avid cyclist and getting up there in age myself this caught my attention, so I watched the video.  Seeing the life changing impact Ole had on Gertrude (watch the video!) by literally giving her a ride down memory lane on the Copenhagen waterfront was inspirational and clearly made a positive difference in her life.  This also gave me the opportunity to go down my own memory lane and reminisce about the wonderful grandparents I was so blessed to have in my life.  I would have loved to pilot a ride for them!

So, after doing some quick research and learning about this remarkable organization founded on a passion for cycling and the insight to help others, in this case our elderly, I responded to Danny at 9:34pm saying, “That’s awesome Dan.  Let’s start one in Redlands!!!!” (Referring to starting a Cycling Without Age chapter in Redlands). 

This is where YOU come in!  Danny and I are exploring establishing a chapter in Redlands and we need your help and welcome your support and engagement.  I plan to form a chapter formation committee including members from our Redlands cycling community, nursing home providers, elderly wellness professionals, community leaders and those like me who value and respect the often forgotten and isolated elderly members of our community.
