Week 146

Positive post Sunday, December 1, 2019- Week 146.

I woke up this morning ready to proofread and share my Positive Post Sunday on the value of venturing outside your comfort zone and the good Lord guided me in a different direction.  While checking my email before posting, the first message was from the Loyola Press reminding me that today is the first Sunday in Advent.  Advent means ‘Coming’ in Latin and many Christian churches see the 4 weeks before Christmas as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas.

The email I received this morning from the Loyola Press is a part of The Year in Our Church series that I look forward to receiving throughout the year when we celebrate important religious times and events.  This particular email provides the first message in a series called Sacred Advent and shares a reflective video and a thoughtful writing titled Receiving Advent by Tom McGrath to kick off this First Sunday of Advent.  McGrath is the author of Raising Faith Filled Kids, The Meal Box, and is one of the authors of the God’s Gift series.

Here’s the link to McGrath’s Receiving Advent: https://www.loyolapress.com/our-catholic-faith/liturgical-year/advent/inspiration/receiving-advent?utm_source=YOC&utm_medium=email&utm_content=sacadv&utm_campaign=advent2019.  And here is the link to a preview of his book Raising Faith Filled Kids: https://www.loyolapress.com/products/books/family-life-and-parenting/raising-faith-filled-kids,  I highly recommend reading both.  Receiving Advent is a very quick read, yet a powerful reminder of the importance of letting go of spiritual impediments so you can openly receive Advent.  Raising Faith Filled Kids provides practical, insightful and helpful tools to parents who aspire to raise their children in faith.

How are you preparing for Nativity of Jesus at Christmas this year?  How will you love and serve others this Advent season?
