Week 128
Positive post Sunday, July 28, 2019- Week 128.
Have you ever sat down and wondered what your future will look like, or asked yourself questions like, “Where will I be in 10 years?” or “What’s going to happen in my professional, personal or spiritual life?” There is no shortage of people, books and videos available that claim to have all the answers for you. Many are a waste of your valuable time, misguiding and, in some cases, even harmful.
That being said, there are a few gems out there. An example in the professional world is well known author, educator and leadership & business guru Peter Drucker, who often spoke about the future. One quote attributed to Drucker that I find meaningful, and actionable is, “The best way to predict the future is to create it”. He also said, “The only thing we know about the future is that it will be different”. This is certainly validated by a quick reflection on how our work environments (6 generations working side by side), purchasing habits (online) and transportation choices (Uber), to list a few, have and will continue to change. Successful future leaders will be those that don’t just sit back and passively let change happen to them, which often results in frustration and even disfunction, but those that embrace and learn from change, and have a vision and the influence to create a positive and meaningful future.
On the personal and spiritual side, there is one person and one book that have withstood the test of time and are the foundation on which I live my life, Jesus and the Bible. We live in a world of constant change with an uncertain future, and I believe it’s absolutely critical that we stay grounded in our faith. No matter what change or challenge we face in our lives here on earth, through thoughtful prayer, acts of compassion and sacrificial giving, we can create a future that guides us and our loved ones on a path to everlasting life in eternity.
In our professional, personal, and most importantly, spiritual lives, we have the choice of just sitting on the sidelines and letting life happen to us or actively creating a successful and meaningful future that transcends our very short time here on earth.
