Week 103

Positive post Sunday, February 3, 2019- Week 103

I bet everyone knows that today is Super Bowl Sunday!  Well, did you know that it’s also the 4th Sunday of Ordinary Time in the Catholic church and like all Sundays, services will continue at Christian churches throughout the world today.  Although many of us will go to church today AND watch the Super Bowl, it’s my hope that Christians around the world get as fired up, excited, passionate and engaged with Mass each week as many do with major sporting events like the Super Bowl, World Cup, World Series and the Tour de France.  I know many people will host or attend a Super Bowl Sunday party today.  Who will be hosting a “Holy Mass Sunday” party today, or on any Sunday throughout the year?!

In our Catholic faith, we recognize seven sacraments: Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage and Holy Orders. The Eucharist is celebrated at every Mass and is the core of our Christian faith.  Attending Mass each Sunday not only demonstrates our commitment to deepen our faith but also gives us the opportunity to give thanks to the Lord for our blessings and seek his guidance as we navigate through life’s challenges each week.  I would also suggest that simply attending Mass each week by itself doesn’t necessarily make us good Christians.  How we apply what we learned and experienced during Mass each week in our daily lives is what truly brings us closer to God.  Where are the opportunities in your everyday life to be more Christlike?

God Bless!
