Week 83

Positive post Sunday, September 26, 2018- Week 83.

When you stop learning you may as well stop living, or as Albert Einstein put it, “Once you stop learning you start dying.”  Education, in its many forms, is a critical and essential part of human life, and the beauty of education is that we can learn at any age.  Just ask Lela Burden from Norfolk Virginia, who at 111 years old received her high school diploma.  Although it’s an honorary diploma, watch the video and you will see that she is clearly a lifelong learner.  Here’s the link https://wtkr.com/2014/06/17/woman-graduates-from-high-school-at-111-years-old/.

Let’s not forget the education and knowledge acquisition of our little ones who learn at an amazing speed, absorbing just about everything they see and hear.  A friendly reminder to all parents and grandparents of young children, they are watching us and learning from us 24/7, and our actions will shape their future.  As my children will attest, I certainly like to have fun and “goof around” with my grandchildren, but I’m always mindful of the impact I have on their development.  We should all ask ourselves, what shadow are we casting on our youth?  I’m hopeful that it’s one of love, happiness, faithfulness and exploration.  Our children are our future and as Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future”.  Walter Elias Disney also noted, “Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children”.

The power of education and knowledge should never be underestimated.  Nelson Mandela said it well, “It’s been said that education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, and Benjamin Franklin, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”  These are insightful reminders that education and knowledge have always been, and will continue to be, foundational for the future growth and survival of humankind.
