Week 66
Positive post Sunday, May 20, 2018- Week 66.
For this week’s POSITIVE post, I’m writing about natural disasters. You might ask how natural disasters are positive. Well, they aren’t but my focus is on preparedness. I recently received the book, “Big Ones” by world-renowned seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones from a colleague at work. Dr. Jones’ book focuses on how natural disasters have shaped us and what we can do about them. She notes that although natural hazards are innevitable, human catastrophies are not. With the Kilauea volcano eruption continuing to unfold, the fire and flood in Montecito and recent earthquakes in southern California, we are continually reminded of the importance of being prepared for natural disasters. So my simple question to all of us is, “How prepared are we for a natural disaster?”.
Please share this post and comment with your preparedness plans and tips so we can all be better prepared for the innevitable. Here is a website with useful information on planning ahead for disasters, https://www.ready.gov. My hope is that this is seen as a call to action for all of us. Being properly prepared can be the difference between life and death. Our families and community are counting on us to be prepared.
