Week 54

Positive post Sunday., February 25, 2018- Week 54.

Serving in the communities we live and work in is very important and critical for the sustainability of the quality of life we enjoy and should never take for granted.  I personally believe that community service is a societal responsibility we all share, not an incumbrance or burden.  Apparently, there are many Americans that agree.  According to the Corporation of National and Community Service, in 2016, about 63 million Americans gave 8 billion hours of volunteer service worth $193 billion.

I have had the privilege to volunteer and serve through a suite of diverse and amazing organizations and institutions including Holy Name of Jesus church, Goodwill, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Redlands Bicycle Classic, the University of Redlands and the Inland Empire Economic Partnership.  I have found community service to be uplifting, inspirational, fulfilling and an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.  I have met many passionate, generous and gifted human beings who have freely offered their time and talents, many of whom I am honored to call my closest friends.

Mother Teresa, one of the most humble yet prolific servant leaders of all time,  said it best, “Faith in action is love – and love in action is service”.
