Week 466
Positive Post Sunday, February 1, 2026…. Week 466. As I wrote back in Positive Post Sunday, August 3, 2025… Week 440, I don’t believe in coincidences, I believe in God my Father.
In my desire to deepen my relationship with Him, I’ve spent the past several months immersing myself in books about apprenticing under Jesus and learning to recognize God’s voice. A sampling of these books include; Hearing God by Dallas Willard, The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence and Alan Vermilye, You Are Called by John Bevere (see PPS, July 13, 2025… Week 437), Walking with God by John Eldredge, God Is Right in Front of You by Brian Grogan, SJ, and Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer (see PPS, November 2, 2025… Week 453). Each of these books has been genuinely transformative in my spiritual journey. They are spiritually rich and thoughtfully challenging. I strongly recommend them to anyone seeking a deeper walk with God.
Together, these readings have strengthened my conviction that God truly does communicate with us. The challenge isn’t whether He speaks, but whether we quiet our hearts long enough to listen. As I continue my spiritual journey, my apprenticeship under Jesus, I’ve experienced moments where God’s presence and guidance have been unmistakable. Some might dismiss them as coincidences, but I’ve learned to see them as God’s gentle, intentional responses.
A few recent moments stand out. A few weeks ago, just before Mass, I was reading Hearing God, specifically the section on recognizing God’s voice, filled with examples of how He speaks to those who listen. Then, during the presentation of the gifts, the choir began singing I Heard the Voice of Jesus. I looked over at Michele, and we both smiled. It was one of those unmistakable God-moments, a quiet reassurance that He hears me, He is with me, and He is guiding me.
That same week, at daily Mass, the opening and closing song was Open My Eyes Lord. Below is a link to an instrumental version that I have found to be good for meditation (lyrics attached). https://keithwasho.bandcamp.com/track/open-my-eyes-catholic-hymn
These are not coincidences. They are reminders. They are invitations. They are the voice of a loving Father, drawing me closer and strengthening my faith.
How have you heard the voice of God?
What experiences do you recall that you may have considered coincidences, that were perhaps God’s responses?
