Week 376

Positive post Sunday, May 12, 2024…. Week 376.  Happy Mother’s Day to all the loving mothers who have had a positive influence in my life.  There are many, including my own mother Dana Rendler (so blessed to continue to have you in our lives), my grandmothers Nana and Mama Joe (RIP), my great grandmothers Emma and Granzy (RIP) and my wife, and mother of our children, Michele Lomen Rendler.  All four of our daughters Heather, Stacy, Alison and Kristy, and our daughter-in-law Laura are also mothers.  May all the mothers in my life have a relaxing and reflective day.  And may all the mothers who have gone before us be resting in peace with our Lord.  I am so grateful for the positive impact so many mothers have had on my life.  Thank you all!

I’m certain that my own mother would agree, there is one mother that stands above all mothers, Mary, the mother of Jesus.  I couldn’t think of a better, and more appropriate and inspiring, way to start my day than to give thanks to our Holy Mother full of grace.  I began my day saying: Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.  Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.  Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

As recorded in Luke 1:26-38, The Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary letting her know that God had chosen her to be the mother of our Lord and savior, Jesus.  And, after much concern and questioning why her (Luke 1:34), Mary’s humble and trusting response was (Luke 1:3), Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Thank God (pun intended) for our mother Mary.  It’s through her acceptance to give birth to Jesus, that Jesus could live his human life, suffer and die on the cross, be buried, and on the third day rise from the dead, opening the gates of Heaven for us to live eternal life.

Let me end with a prayer from Aaron D’Anthony Brown: “Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of motherhood. Today, we celebrate the loving sacrifice of mothers, both biological and spiritual, who nurture and guide us in Your ways. Bless them with joy, strength, and love to continue their selfless devotion. May they feel deeply appreciated and honored not just today, but every day. Amen.”
